Dr Muna H. Bilgrami

Biography

Dr Muna H. Bilgrami did her PhD research at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, covering representations of Islamic and Western Sufism, building on a BAin Arabic and Persian from the University of Texas and an MA in Islamic Societies and Culture at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies. Her extensive professional experience of several decades in the world of publishing means she has worked as an editor, proof-reader, commissioning editor, and managing editor, as well as author, in books on Islam, Qur’anic exegesis, Sufism, and Islamic spirituality. In addition, she has worked as a broadcaster in radio, writing and delivering programmes on matters of faith, and as a teacher of Islamic Studies and Qur’an in various formal and informal institutions. Trained as a facilitator in the Academy of Self Knowledge, based in South Africa, she is currently a Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg.
